FAQs

How do the programs work?

Once you’re enrolled, we’ll send you a kit that includes two wearable sensors and a tablet. The sensors guide you through a personalized routine of stretching and strengthening exercises. The exercises are based on expert recommendations, take as little as 45 minutes per week, and you can do them whenever and wherever you choose. Every activity is logged and every goal documented, so you'll be able to track your progress over time, aiming for ever higher goals.

We’ll also connect you with a personal health coach to guide you through the 12-week program and beyond. You’ll start with a one-on-one call, during which your coach will get to know you and your goals. Your coach will be in constant contact throughout the program, tailoring it to your needs, keeping you motivated, and ensuring you stay on track. And because healthy habits are necessary to ensure the pain doesn’t come back, Hinge Health will continue to provide support after the 12-week program ends.

Research shows that a comprehensive and personalized approach is most effective when managing chronic knee and back pain, so we provide the full toolkit: exercise therapy, education about your condition, unlimited personal coaching, and help with stress and low mood. All so you can get back to the things you love.

What is the science behind the program?

Many studies have shown it is possible to dramatically reduce pain, and return to a more active and normal life without the need for surgery or potent drugs.1,2

In fact, virtually all major medical bodies (including the CDC, the American Orthopedic Association, and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence) recommend a thorough program of non-surgical treatment before surgery is ever considered. There’s clear agreement within the medical community about what this care should consist of: 3,4

  • Information allowing you, the patient, to better understand the condition, and how to manage it.
  • Frequent stretching and strengthening exercises, combined with more physical activity.
  • Help with weight loss, which helps reduce the load on the knee or back.
  • Support to address the mental and social difficulties almost always associated with chronic pain.

What results can I expect?

The results from effective non-surgical programs like these can be extremely positive.1,2 Different studies have shown such programs can lead to:

  • Pain reduction as good as, or even better than, that achieved by opioids (strong, addictive painkillers).
  • A four-times smaller likelihood of needing knee or back surgery.
  • A doubling in improvement returning to physical activity and rate of returning to work.

At Hinge Health, we regularly see our remotely delivered programs achieve results as good as, or better than the expensive and inconvenient in-person care that these studies involved. Over 1,000 people have completed our programs to date. Participants report a reduction in pain by more than 50%, on average. Nine in ten participants say they’re less likely to pursue surgery as an option.

Who is eligible for this pilot program?

Employees and spouses on a US Foods health plan are eligible. You will go through a clinical questionnaire to make sure our program is the right fit. But as a general rule, if you’ve had pain for more than 6 weeks this year, the program is for you!

US Foods and Hinge Health are working together to bring you this program on a pilot basis, so space and time to sign up are limited.
