- Treating pain in multiple body parts
Product Team: Hannah Skurnik (Product Manager), Cathy Han (Senior Product Manager)
Pain is rarely isolated to one area of the body because joints and muscles form an interconnected system. This may also cause pain patterns to shift in location and intensity making it hard for physical therapists (PTs) to recommend a repeatable weekly exercise plan. This complex nature of chronic pain means members require a holistic approach that can respond to their changing needs.
Earlier this year, we built a more dynamic exercise experience for our members that addresses the full body and is flexible to meet them where they are. This new experience goes beyond offering care to multiple body parts in parallel, but now allows us to provide comprehensive, integrated care tailored to all affected areas.
During enrollment, members have the ability to select up to 3 body parts and adjust these areas anytime as their needs change. Their exercise plans are then updated in real-time to evolve with their clinical focus areas. This enhanced member experience is made possible by our patented personalization platform that is able to select exercises across multiple body parts while staying dynamic to evolve with each member’s unique needs. This allows a member’s physical therapist to deliver the most personalized full body care to our members.
Member experience highlights:
Comprehensive movement assessment: Before starting exercise therapy, the member is assessed to evaluate their movement baseline for all target areas being addressed in order to help tailor exercises to not put strain on painful body parts.
Cohesive treatment: Then exercises for multiple body parts are integrated into one convenient daily playlist for optimal cohesive treatment to get the best clinical outcomes. With one click of a button, a member can start treatment for up to three areas of pain simultaneously.
Real-time adjustments: Pain location and intensity can change at any time, so members have the flexibility to adjust their treatment areas as needed, with their exercise plans updating in real time. They can also modify their exercises if they feel too easy or too challenging, ensuring they stay engaged and keep moving. A physical therapist provides clinical oversight to all adjustments, ensuring the treatment remains effective and safe. Members can choose specific activities they enjoy, with tailored exercises designed to support those activity goals. Along the way, they gain insights into how their exercises target the affected body area and enhance their ability to perform desired activities
Since launching cohesive treatments, over 60% of members have selected 2 or more body parts during enrollment, underscoring the high demand for integrated care. We are proud to be the only MSK solution today offering this level of comprehensive, simultaneous treatment.
